The opposition coalition movement has called on prominent political figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, to resign their membership of their current parties and declare full allegiance to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The directive followed a closed-door strategy meeting convened on Thursday by the interim National Chairman of the ADC, Senator David Mark, as part of efforts to strengthen the opposition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a significant shift, the coalition also announced the suspension of ongoing processes for the registration of the proposed All Democratic Alliance (ADA) with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), opting instead to consolidate under the ADC platform.
According to ADC spokesperson Bolaji Abdullahi, all members of the coalition resolved to rally behind whoever emerges as the party’s presidential candidate in 2027.
“We have agreed to put aside our individual party interests and work collectively under the ADC umbrella. All members are expected to resign from their current parties and register fully as ADC members. More importantly, we are committed to supporting whoever wins the presidential primary as our consensus candidate,” Abdullahi said.
The move is seen as part of wider opposition realignments aimed at presenting a united front against the ruling party in the run-up to the 2027 elections.
