The African Action Congress (AAC) has called for the immediate removal of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, over allegations of corruption, abuse of office, and intimidation of residents.
In a statement signed by its FCT chairman, Agena Robert Ande, the party said it was “utterly appalled” by revelations linking Wike to the purchase of a $2 million mansion in Florida, USA, allegedly acquired through his wife and children to conceal ownership.
The AAC further accused the minister of engaging in secret land allocations, nepotism, and illicit enrichment. According to the statement, Wike allegedly allocated a prime plot of land in Guzape II valued at ₦400 million to his 90-year-old father, Joshua Nlemanya Wike, in addition to other land deals involving close associates.
“This blatant nepotism and favoritism demonstrate Wike’s utter disregard for the public interest and his propensity for exploiting his office for personal aggrandizement,” the party stated.
The AAC also accused Wike of threatening shop owners and market users in Abuja with land seizures if they fail to support his preferred candidates in the forthcoming council elections — a move the party described as a brazen attempt to intimidate citizens and undermine democracy.
On allegations of illicit enrichment, the party questioned how the minister could afford such luxury acquisitions given his official annual salary and allowances, which reportedly stand at about ₦7.8 million.
“It is implausible for Wike to amass over $2 million for the luxury acquisition without dipping into public resources, raising serious concerns about illicit enrichment, cross-border money laundering, and abuse of office,” the AAC said.
The party demanded that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu immediately launch a comprehensive investigation into Wike’s finances, sack him from office, and guarantee the protection of FCT residents from political intimidation.
“Enough of having him undermining the people of FCT and acting with impunity like he is the de facto president,” the statement added.
The AAC urged Nigerians to demand accountability and transparency from public officials, warning that tolerance for corruption and abuse of office would erode democracy and public trust.
“We cannot continue to tolerate public officials who engage in corrupt practices, subvert the democratic process, and undermine the public trust. We demand a government that is transparent, accountable, and serves the interests of the people,” the party’s chairman, Agena Robert Ande, said.
