In a remarkable gesture to promote girl-child education across Nigeria, 15-year-old Joy Ogah has stepped into history by serving as Vice President of the Federation for one day.
The symbolic act took place on Monday when Vice President Kashim Shettima hosted a delegation from PLAN International, led by its Director of Programme, Quality and Innovation, Helen Mfonobong Idiong, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
In an inspiring display of mentorship and inclusivity, Vice President Shettima vacated his seat to allow young Joy Ogah to preside over the affairs of the Office of the Vice President — giving her a rare opportunity to address the nation from the country’s second-highest office.
Speaking during the visit, Vice President Shettima reaffirmed the Federal Government’s unwavering commitment to advancing the cause of the girl child.
“I assured stakeholders and development partners of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to promoting girl-child education across Nigeria,” he said.
He further pledged to deepen collaboration with PLAN International, noting that the government would continue to explore ways to leverage its strength and resources to implement the organization’s recommendations on girl-child education.
Joy Ogah, radiating confidence and hope, used her brief tenure to encourage young girls across Nigeria to believe in their potential and pursue education as a tool for empowerment and leadership.
The initiative, spearheaded by PLAN International, aims to inspire young girls to envision themselves in positions of influence while advocating for increased investment in their education and welfare.
