Abuja, November 1, 2025 — The Federal Government of Nigeria has dismissed recent comments by former U.S. President Donald J. Trump alleging widespread killings of Christians in Nigeria and calling for the country’s designation as a “Country of Particular Concern.”
In a statement issued on Saturday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the government said Trump’s claims do not reflect the realities on the ground, emphasizing that Nigerians of all faiths have historically coexisted peacefully.
“While Nigeria appreciates global concern for human rights and religious freedom, these claims do not reflect the situation on the ground. Nigerians of all faiths have long lived, worked, and worshipped together peacefully,” the statement read.
The ministry reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to the protection of all citizens, regardless of religion or ethnicity, noting that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu continues to prioritize national security, interfaith harmony, and counterterrorism efforts.
“Under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Nigeria remains committed to fighting terrorism, strengthening interfaith harmony, and protecting the lives and rights of all its people,” the ministry added.
The statement further noted that Nigeria would continue to engage constructively with the United States to enhance mutual understanding of the country’s security dynamics and its ongoing efforts to maintain peace and stability.
The press release, signed by the Ministry’s spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, reaffirmed the government’s openness to collaboration with international partners while urging accuracy and balance in global discussions concerning Nigeria’s internal affairs.
