The All Progressives Congress (APC) has scheduled fresh meetings of its National Caucus and National Executive Committee (NEC) for 15 and 16 December, respectively, in what party insiders describe as renewed efforts to resolve internal disagreements and strengthen party structures ahead of key political decisions for 2026.
In an official notice circulated on Wednesday and endorsed by the party’s national leadership, the APC said the meetings would be held at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, in line with Articles 12.5 and 12.3 of the party’s constitution.
According to the announcement, the National Caucus is expected to convene on Monday, 15 December, at 6 p.m., while the NEC meeting will follow on Tuesday, 16 December, at 12 noon.
Although the communiqué did not reveal the agenda, both meetings traditionally deliberate on major political, administrative and strategic issues affecting the ruling party.
The National Caucus—comprising the President, Vice President, Senate President, Speaker of the House of Representatives, state governors, the national chairman, and select past leaders—serves as an advisory body. It typically provides broad policy direction and makes recommendations for NEC approval.
The NEC, regarded as the highest decision-making organ of the party after the National Convention, is responsible for ratifying major policy decisions, approving appointments into the National Working Committee (NWC), resolving disputes within party organs, and endorsing adjustments to political strategy.
The last NEC meeting was held in July, during which Nentawe Yilwatda emerged as the party’s National Chairman.
Party sources suggest that the December meetings may focus on reorganising internal structures, reviewing preparations for upcoming electoral activities, and addressing lingering tensions among party factions.
With the 2026 election cycle drawing closer, the outcomes of the two sessions are expected to shape the APC’s strategic direction in the months ahead.
