Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has said the state was not impacted by the recent power shortage experienced in parts of Nigeria, attributing Abia’s resilience to its control over critical electricity assets.
Speaking on the development, Otti explained that a significant portion of the state’s power infrastructure is under Abia’s authority, enabling uninterrupted electricity supply despite wider national challenges.
“I’m sure you are all aware of the recent power shortage, but Abia State was not affected because a whole part of our power asset is within our authority. This shows that we are making real progress,” the governor said.
He further disclosed that the state is pursuing innovative and sustainable energy solutions, including waste-to-energy initiatives that convert organic waste into electricity. According to him, this approach will not only improve waste management but also boost power generation across the state.
“All the organic waste we are disposing of will be converted into energy to power many places,” Otti added.
The governor’s remarks underscore Abia State’s push towards energy self-sufficiency and sustainable development, positioning the state as a model for subnational power control and clean energy adoption in Nigeria.
