The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Wednesday launched a scathing attack on Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, describing him as “unstable” and “unreliable” amid the ongoing crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Wike made the remarks while inspecting key infrastructure projects handled by CGC, Arab Contractors, and Gilmor, including the Airport Road–Kuje Junction and other major traffic corridors in Abuja.
The former Rivers State governor accused Bala Mohammed of inconsistency, stating that his frequent changes in position have made it difficult for party members to trust his leadership.
“It is very embarrassing. He says one thing today, another thing in the morning, and a different thing in the afternoon. Bala, we are really glad that you told Nigerians who you are—that you are not reliable,” Wike said.
Criticism Over PDP National Secretary Demand
Wike also criticized Mohammed’s reported push for the position of PDP National Secretary, describing it as a demand coming from “a position of weakness.”
According to him, the Bauchi governor lacks the political standing to make such demands, insisting that leadership positions in the party should not be negotiated under pressure.
“You are already defeated, you have lost. You are speaking from a weak point and want to demand the secretary. That is not done,” he added.
Allegations of Self-Interest
The FCT Minister further accused Bala Mohammed of attempting to manipulate party structures for personal gain, suggesting that his actions are driven by self-interest rather than the unity of the PDP.
Wike also questioned Mohammed’s reported meetings with President Bola Tinubu, raising concerns about the appropriateness of seeking intervention from a rival party.
“He said he went to see Mr. President three times. What did he go and see Mr. President for? How will someone from another party fix your problem in another party?” Wike queried.
Deepening PDP Divisions
Wike’s remarks highlight the deepening divisions within the PDP ahead of its crucial national convention. The ongoing power struggle between party factions continues to shape the political landscape, with key figures trading accusations over control and direction of the party.
