Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has accused the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of attempting to weaponize state institutions against political opponents who refuse to align with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking during a press conference, the governor alleged that agencies such as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the judiciary are being used to target individuals outside the APC.
According to him, the federal government believes it can intimidate and silence dissenting voices through legal and institutional pressure.
“The APC-led federal government thinks they can use the court and the EFCC to prosecute Nigerians who are not in their party,” Mohammed said.
He warned that such actions, if continued, could provoke strong resistance from those who feel unfairly targeted.
“If they don’t stop, we are prepared to declare a war. I assure you, we will not keep quiet any longer,” he added.
The Bauchi governor firmly dismissed any suggestion of defecting to the ruling party, stressing that his political stance should not be grounds for persecution.
“I will not allow anybody to criminalize me because I refuse to join their party,” he stated.
Mohammed reaffirmed his commitment to speaking out against what he described as abuse of power, insisting that democratic principles must be upheld regardless of political affiliation.
The remarks come amid rising political tensions and growing concerns over the use of federal institutions in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.
