Former Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye, has expressed optimism that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will field a formidable presidential candidate capable of defeating President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking in Abuja, Melaye described the ADC as a “national altar call,” urging Nigerians to reassess the party’s relevance in shaping the country’s political future. According to him, those aligning with the ADC are driven by conscience and a deep commitment to transformative change.
“Those of us in the ADC must create a stable and accommodating platform,” he stated. “I believe this platform will produce a presidential candidate who will unseat President Bola Tinubu in 2027.”
Melaye emphasized that internal party coherence and transparency are prerequisites to achieving that goal. “I’ve made it a point of duty not to endorse any aspirant until we conduct a transparent, credible convention that produces the right candidate to lead the charge,” he said.
However, critics and leaders of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), including former APC National Secretary Iyiola Omisore, have dismissed the coalition’s strength. They point to potential internal rivalries and conflicting ambitions within the ADC and its allies—particularly over the hotly contested presidential ticket—as major obstacles.
Despite such skepticism, Melaye remains unfazed. “The ADC is not just a political party; it’s a national altar call. It is a platform for men and women of conscience who are ready to birth genuine change,” he reaffirmed.
The ADC continues to court reform-minded politicians and citizens alike, positioning itself as a credible alternative ahead of the 2027 polls.
