The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has hinted at backing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the 2027 presidential election. The endorsement was announced by the party’s National Chairman, Barrister Sly Ezeokenwa, during a press briefing in Abuja.
Ezeokenwa highlighted APGA’s ideological alignment with the Tinubu administration, describing both parties as rooted in progressive governance. He also referenced Tinubu’s recent outreach to APGA—most notably his visit to Anambra State where he wore APGA insignia—as well as the appointment of APGA stalwart, Ambassador Bianca Ojukwu, as a minister.
While affirming the party’s political backing for Tinubu’s re-election bid, Ezeokenwa clarified that a formal adoption of Tinubu as APGA’s presidential candidate would require ratification by the National Executive Council (NEC). Nonetheless, the endorsement itself reflects a clear strategic alignment.
This move builds on earlier signals from Anambra State Governor Charles Soludo—APGA’s sole governor—who publicly endorsed Tinubu as far back as May 2025 during the President’s Anambra visit. Subsequent statements in August and September 2025 by APGA’s national publicity secretary reinforced the party’s position, rooted in long-standing ideological compatibility and the 22-year personal relationship between Soludo and Tinubu.
APGA’s endorsement adds to the growing wave of political realignments ahead of 2027, as several opposition figures and blocs continue to express support for Tinubu’s administration amid ongoing economic reforms and cross-party defections.
