The Federal Government has released the second tranche of the N35,000 wage award arrears to federal workers, the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF) confirmed.

In a statement issued in Abuja, Director of Press and Public Relations, Bawa Mokwa, explained that the payment is part of efforts to clear the five-month arrears owed to federal employees.

The first tranche — covering one month — was disbursed earlier in the year, leaving three more monthly instalments to be paid.

“With the payment of the second tranche, there remain three tranches to exhaust the wage award arrears,” the statement noted.

Addressing concerns that the arrears may have been abandoned, the OAGF dismissed such claims, assuring workers of the government’s commitment to fulfilling its obligations.

“Contrary to insinuations in some quarters, the Federal Government has not reneged on payment of the wage award arrears,” it stressed.

The N35,000 wage award, negotiated in 2023 as part of a palliative package following the removal of fuel subsidy, was designed to cushion the effects of inflation and rising living costs on public sector workers.

The OAGF reaffirmed that the remaining payments will continue in monthly instalments until the arrears are fully cleared.
