Prince Emmanuel Kanu, brother to the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has expressed deep appreciation to Nigerians who participated in the recent #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest held in Abuja.
The demonstration, spearheaded by activist Omoyele Sowore, took place on October 20, 2025, with participants calling for the immediate release of Nnamdi Kanu. However, protesters were prevented by security operatives from marching to the Presidential Villa, as police blocked access to several strategic locations within the Federal Capital Territory.
During the protest, Prince Emmanuel Kanu, Nnamdi Kanu’s lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, and several others were arrested. Sowore was later detained and charged alongside them before a magistrate court in Kuje for alleged incitement, disturbance of public peace, and disobedience to a court order.
The court granted them bail on October 24, but their release was delayed until October 27, after they met the bail conditions.
In a post shared on his Facebook page on Friday, Prince Emmanuel Kanu commended Nigerians from across ethnic and regional lines who joined the peaceful protest, describing their participation as a show of national unity and commitment to justice.
He wrote:
“I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to those who contributed to the success of the peaceful protest held on October 20, 2025.
“The event transcended ethnic boundaries, as numerous citizens from various parts of Abuja and beyond gathered to express their solidarity and demand the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
“This demonstration of unity and collective strength is essential for challenging injustice and bringing an end to the unjust trial of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. Those responsible for orchestrating this injustice will undoubtedly face consequences for their actions. Heaven remains on the side of justice.”
Prince Kanu emphasized that the continued detention of his brother remains a violation of human rights and urged the Federal Government to heed the growing national and international calls for his release.
