Mr Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party Presidential candidate has presented a cheque of N50 million to his alma mater, Christ the King College, Onitsha, for infrastructural development
The former Anambra State Governor, who made the donation during a visit to the school, said it was to support education development and improve learning conditions.
Obi was accompanied by some old students during the visit and noted that the gesture was also to show gratitude to the institution that shaped the formative years of both himself and the other Old Boys who contributed to the donation.
“This school helped form the values I and many others still hold till today: the discipline, moral grounding, and academic excellence, supporting through this donation is a way of giving back to the school,” he noted.
Obi also called on other alumni of CKC and other schools to support their alma maters in whatever way they could, adding that the burden of educational development should not rest on the government alone.
In his remarks, the Archbishop of Onitsha, Rev. Valerian Okeke, who received the donation on behalf of the school, lauded Obi and the other Old Boys for their commitment to education and nation-building.
Okeke offered prayers and urged others to emulate their example.
In the same vein, the Senior Prefect of the school, Master Ejike Ekene, expressed appreciation to Obi and other Old Boys, describing the politician and businessman as a role model and an inspiration to students.
