The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has cautioned its members against publicly endorsing President Bola Tinubu for re-election in 2027, warning that such actions amount to anti-party activities and breach the party’s constitution.
In a statement on Friday, PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, described recent endorsements by prominent members as “a serious threat to the stability and sustenance of our party.”
“Of serious concern is the persistent public media outbursts against our Party by some prominent members whose actions and utterances — including their public declaration of support and willingness to work for the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 Presidential election — in violation of the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017) constitute a serious threat to the stability and sustenance of our Party,” Ologunagba said.
The warning follows open declarations of support for Tinubu’s second-term bid by PDP figures including Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory; Ayodele Fayose, former Ekiti State governor; and members of the PDP Osun State caucus.
Citing Section 10(6) of the party’s constitution, Ologunagba stressed that no member is permitted to undermine the PDP’s interests or activities, adding that such conduct has fuelled division, disaffection, and loss of members.
The NWC, invoking Section 59(1), issued a formal reprimand and warned that further breaches would attract stiff sanctions.
“In light of the foregoing and the urgency of protecting and preserving the existence of our Party and its electoral fortune, the NWC… cautions those involved to retrace their steps or face stiffer sanctions as provided in the PDP Constitution,” Ologunagba declared.
He urged members to remain loyal ahead of the PDP’s national convention in November 2025.
“All members must remain steadfast and united, working assiduously towards the success of the Party at the upcoming National Convention,” he added.
