The 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, and former Governor of Anambra state, Peter Obi,  has donated a sum of ₦20 million to the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Calabar (UNICAL) to support 400 dental students facing potential expulsion due to the institution’s accreditation challenges.

The donation, according to sources, aims to address the faculty’s lack of essential equipment, a key factor in its accreditation woes caused by over-admission of students.

“The funds will help UNICAL procure necessary training equipment, moving the faculty closer to resolving its accreditation issues with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN),” it added.

Meanwhile, Obi emphasized his commitment to education and supporting vulnerable students, saying, “No student should be denied education due to institutional failures,”  a statement shared on his X page.
