President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has departed Brazil for Abuja after a state visit aimed at strengthening relations between Nigeria and Brazil.
The presidential jet took off from the Brasília International Airport Air Force Base at 12:57 pm (local time).
Present at the airport to bid farewell to the President were Amb. Carlos Sérgio Sobral Duarte, Secretary for Africa and the Middle East, and Amb. Carlos José Areias Moreno Garcete, Brazil’s Ambassador to Nigeria. Nigeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, and other senior government officials were also in attendance.
A guard of honour led by Col. Cel Nicolas formed part of the brief departure ceremony.
President Tinubu had arrived in Brasília on Monday, August 25, for a strategic diplomatic engagement. On arrival, he was received with full military honours at the Palácio do Planalto, where Brazil rolled out the red carpet for the Nigerian leader.
During the visit, President Tinubu met with his Brazilian counterpart, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, and other senior officials. Both leaders witnessed the signing of five Memoranda of Understanding covering aviation, foreign affairs, science and technology, and agriculture—sectors that are central to Nigeria’s development agenda.
