President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Major General Abdullahi Mohammed Adangba (rtd.), a former Chief of Staff to Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.
General Mohammed, who died at the age of 86, was a distinguished military officer and statesman credited with shaping Nigeria’s modern security architecture. He played a key role in establishing the National Security Organisation (NSO), which later evolved into the State Security Service (SSS), National Intelligence Agency (NIA), and Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA).
In a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu described the late General as a disciplined, loyal, and patriotic officer whose service to the nation was marked by excellence and dedication.
“General Mohammed brought to public service an uncommon sense of duty, order, humility, and integrity that left a lasting imprint on the institutions he served and the people who came into contact with him,” the President said. “He was a man of exemplary character, who combined the precision of a soldier with the prudence of a statesman.”
The President noted that the late General’s tenure in the State House was characterized by humility, efficiency, and an unwavering commitment to national development.
General Mohammed, who also served as Governor of the defunct Benue-Plateau State between 1975 and 1976, was widely respected for his contributions to Nigeria’s governance and security systems.
President Tinubu extended his condolences to the family of the deceased, the government and people of Kwara State, as well as the Nigerian Armed Forces, describing General Mohammed’s passing as a great loss to the nation.
