Fresh tension broke out in the Senate on Wednesday as Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi (Ebonyi South) and Senator Rufa’i Hanga (Kano Central) engaged in a heated exchange during the budget defence session of the Ministry of Works.

The session, which was attended by the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, witnessed raised voices as both lawmakers traded remarks over undisclosed issues during deliberations.

At the peak of the confrontation, Senator Ali Ndume was seen appealing to Senator Hanga to remain calm, reminding him that the proceedings were being captured on camera.

However, Hanga fired back, asserting that he was elected with “ten times more votes” than his Ebonyi counterpart. In response, Senator Nwebonyi reminded Hanga that he belongs to the ruling party, further escalating the tension in the chamber.

The incident briefly disrupted proceedings before order was restored, allowing the budget defence to continue.
