Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has stated that the recent judgment by the Supreme Court of Nigeria has effectively brought an end to the prolonged leadership crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Speaking shortly after the ruling in Abuja, Wike said the apex court’s decision has resolved all disputes over parallel leadership structures in the party, affirming that there is now only one recognized PDP.
The Supreme Court dismissed appeals challenging earlier rulings on the controversial 2025 national convention held in Ibadan, which had produced a rival leadership faction. The court upheld decisions from lower courts that invalidated the convention, describing it as having been conducted in violation of existing court orders.
According to Wike, the judgment confirms the legitimacy of the current party leadership and nullifies claims by any opposing groups. He emphasized that the era of factional divisions within the PDP is over, stressing that “there is no more faction—only one united party.”
The ruling is seen as a major turning point for the opposition party, which has been embroiled in internal disputes for months. The crisis stemmed from disagreements over the conduct of the Ibadan convention and competing claims to the party’s leadership.
Wike urged party members to align with the court’s decision and operate within the framework of the law, warning against actions that could destabilize the party again.
With the verdict, the PDP is expected to refocus its efforts on rebuilding unity and strengthening its position ahead of future political contests.
