In a bold and unambiguous message to Nigerians, Former Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 election, Mr. Peter Obi, has reiterated his unwavering commitment to a one-term presidency, declaring that if elected, he will serve only four years—no extensions, no excuses.
“If I’m elected, I won’t spend a single day longer than four years in office. That promise is sacred,” Obi asserted.
Citing global icons like Abraham Lincoln, John F. Kennedy, and Nelson Mandela, Obi emphasized that true leadership is not defined by the duration of tenure, but by the quality of service and impact delivered within that time.
“Staying in office for a long time doesn’t equate to success. It’s meaningful, accountable service—no matter how short—that truly defines great leadership,” he noted.
Despite skepticism in some quarters—including harsh remarks from critics like Anambra State Governor Charles Soludo, who once suggested Obi needed “a mental check”—the former governor of Anambra stood his ground.
“They’re measuring me against their own flawed standards. But Peter Obi is not like them. I have a proven track record,” he stated.
Obi pointed to his achievements in Anambra State: improvements in education, healthcare, infrastructure, and a reputation for fiscal prudence—all accomplished without fanfare or deceit.
“If keeping my word makes me mentally unfit, then perhaps those who wrote our Constitution should also consider a check-up!”
