The Presidency has refuted a report by the International Centre for Investigative Reporting (ICIR) alleging that President Bola Tinubu is critically ill and preparing to travel abroad for urgent medical treatment.
In a recent publication, the ICIR claimed that, citing unnamed Aso Rock sources, the president had been bedridden for several days, leading to his absence from key state functions. The report also alleged that all of Tinubu’s scheduled engagements, including last week’s Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, were cancelled.
Reacting on Sunday night, presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga dismissed the claims as baseless. Onanuga maintained that the president is in good health and has the discretion to work from any location.
“There is nothing wrong with the president, he is okay. He can choose to work from home. He can choose to work from anywhere,” Onanuga said. “I tell you nothing is wrong with the president.”
President Tinubu has not been seen at public events since the previous week, a development that has fuelled speculation about his health.
