The wife of the Anambra State Governor, Dr. Nonye Soludo, has invited Miss Jenifer Elohor, the female National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member recently assaulted by operatives of the state-controlled Agunechemba security outfit, to the Government House for a private meeting.

Dr. Soludo, who personally reached out to the corps member via phone call, expressed sympathy over the incident and assured her of justice.

An aide to the governor’s wife disclosed:

“Her Excellency called the lady on phone, sympathized with her, and invited her to the Government House. However, the corps member explained that she is currently out of Anambra State but promised to honour the invitation once she returns. She was deeply touched by the governor’s wife’s humility and expressed her willingness to visit soon.”

The First Lady had earlier condemned the assault, insisting that those responsible must be brought to justice to serve as a deterrent.

Meanwhile, the Special Adviser to Governor Soludo on Community Security, Prince Ken Emeakayi, confirmed on Wednesday that the officers involved in the assault had been arrested.

Emeakayi explained that the operatives, while on a legitimate operation, mishandled the situation.

“They were in pursuit of suspected cultists on about 12 motorcycles who escaped into a compound. During the search of the premises, the unfortunate incident occurred. Their conduct was unacceptable and regrettable,” he said.

He added that the state government had contacted the victim and her NYSC local government office, noting that she had also visited his office in Awka.

The eight operatives involved were paraded on Wednesday in Awka and are currently in detention pending further investigation and disciplinary action.
