President Bola Tinubu has called on state governors to intensify investments in poverty eradication, rural electrification, agricultural mechanisation, and infrastructure as part of a collective effort to drive inclusive economic development across Nigeria.
Speaking at the 150th National Economic Council (NEC) meeting held Thursday at the State House Council Chambers, Abuja, Tinubu emphasized the need for stronger collaboration between the Federal Government and states to transform rural communities.
“I want to appeal to you; let us change the story of our people in the rural areas,” the President said, according to a statement by Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communications (Office of the Vice President).
Highlighting progress on economic recovery, Tinubu stated:
“The economy is working. We are on the path of recovery, but we need to stimulate growth in the rural areas. We know the situation in the rural areas—let us collaborate and do what will benefit the people.”
The President made the remarks following a presentation on the Renewed Hope Ward Development Programme (RHWDP) by the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Bagudu.
He also urged swift adoption of modern farming practices, greater school enrolment through improved feeding programs, and stepped-up efforts against insecurity.
To support legacy infrastructure projects, Tinubu directed NEC to establish a committee focused on delivering major developments such as the Lagos-Calabar and Sokoto-Badagry Super Highways. He further announced the transfer of the Office of the Surveyor-General of the Federation to the presidency for streamlined execution of key national projects.
